The background bits

Collecting maps can be a really rewarding and and frustrating experience. As the years pass these fragile pieces of printed paper become scarcer and finding the “right” map more of a challenge. We predominantly obtain earlier maps simply because they are older, prettier and in our opinion, more desirable, however later maps can also exhibit the same properties, its all down to taste. We will source maps and then ensure, to the best of our ability, their age and ensure they are genuine and then once investigated they are put up for sale. Each map is sent out mounted between picture card and well protected by packing to ensure safe arrival. Where possible all relevant details re dating etc will be supplied but scarcer or less common maps can be more difficult to date due to lack of information or a wide range in print runs. Also the condition of each map will be described as accurately as possible. 400 year old paper can and does suffer from a range of defects though most do not detract from the final effect. It should also be noted that all maps and antiquities, will be, to the best of our knowledge, be a genuine antique. We do not deal in or are interested in reproductions or forgeries although they do unfortunately exist. Finally we have an arrangement with a local picture framer who will frame your map to a style and frame to suit your requirement. Please call for details.
